We've lived here, North Wiltshire UK, since early in the '90s. Hard landscaping to the main part of the garden was put in place in 2004.
The soil is heavy clay so needs lots of extra muck (aka organic matter) and originally a good inch of sharp grit as well, every year. The total size of the garden is about a quarter of an acre. This is taken up, in roughly equal portions, by ornamental beds, vegetables/fruit, lawn and paved area (occupied by tables, chairs and barbeque). The greenhouse sits alongside the vegetable and fruit area.
The 'aspect' is just off the points of the compass. The back, and main area of garden, is ESE so gets the bulk of the sun morning to mid afternoon. The vegtable garden is on the S/SW side; very little gardening space on the NW/NE sides.
We have wonderful views from the garden across open countryside. This has the disadvantage that the garden is exposed to the prevailing winds.
It is 99% organic as every now and then I do resort to weedkiller for some of the most tenacious weeds.
Gardening is my hobby. I have been described as a 'plantswoman' which translates into I love plants and fit in as many specimans as I can rather than plant in swathes.
